UIPM ANNOUNCES MODERN PENTATHLON OLYMPIC QUALIFIED ATHLETES

After over a year of travelling the world, 72 athletes are one step closer to reaching their Olympic dream.

The below athletes have earned qualification in the Modern Pentathlon event at Rio 2016 Olympic Games on 18-20 August 2016 through either continental qualification, World Cup Final/World Championships or the Olympic World Rankings, which closed today, 1 June 2016.

These athletes now need to be selected by their respective National Olympic Committees to compete in Rio de Janeiro.

As only 2 athletes per nation are able to compete on the day, nations such as Egypt, Russia, Hungary, Great Britain, Germany, Korea, Lithuania and China, which have qualified more than 2 athletes, have to notify UIPM by 15 June, of the athletes they are selecting to battle for gold at Deodoro Stadium.

Once these nations have selected their athletes, UIPM will release the 2nd round of allocation on June 16, to fill up the 36 male and 36 female places available.

The 3-day event starts with Women’s Fencing Ranking Round at 10:30 on 18 August, followed by the Men’s Fencing Ranking Round at 14:30, both events taking place at the Deodoro Youth Olympic Arena. The Finals, Women on 19 August and the Men on 20 August, start with swimming at 12:00 at Deodoro Aquatics Centre followed by Fencing Bonus Round, Riding and the Combined Event at Deodoro Stadium from 14:00.
