UIPM publishes first Athletes Safeguarding Policy

UIPM News

The Union Internationale de Pentathlon Moderne (UIPM) has published its first Athletes Safeguarding Policy (ASP), fully compliant with International Olympic Committee standards.

Each individual has the right to participate and work in a safe and supportive environment based on respect and in which all individuals are treated with respect and dignity.

The UIPM is committed to creating and maintaining a sport community where all participants can live in an atmosphere free of all forms of emotional, physical and sexual misconduct.

The welfare of the UIPM community is paramount and all forms of misconduct areintolerable and in direct conflict with Olympic ideals and the UIPM Statutes.

The ASP is aligned to the UIPM Code of Ethics, which has been updated to cover the areas of harassment and abuse highlighted in the policy document. These are now punishable violations of the code.

The policy document sets out the reporting and investigation procedures, measures and sanctions and confidentiality rights for anyone who may file or be associated with a complaint.

UIPM President Dr Klaus Schormann said: “UIPM is determined to ensure that anyone who participates in UIPM Sports can do so in a safe environment.

“The UIPM Athletes Safeguarding Policy is an important manual for anyone involved in our movement who may be subject to abuse or harassment at any level.”
