Host nation Poland have made a dominant start to the CISM 2021 Military World Championships in Drzonkow (POL), winning gold in both the Men’s and Women’s Relays.

The Category A Modern Pentathlon competition marks the first global gathering of military pentathletes since the CISM Military World Games in Wuhan (CHN) in October 2019.

As ever, the standard of the competition is incredibly high with many of the world’s leading athletes taking part.

On day one, Tokyo 2020 Olympians Lukasz Gutkowski and Sebastian Stasiak claimed the gold medal in the Men’s Relay after an impressive ride and Laser Run enabled them to finish ahead of top-performing fencers and silver medallists Hungary (Robert Kasza & Bence Demeter) and bronze medallists Germany (Dominik Olejarz & Fernand Mitterrand).

Poland’s women picked up where the men left off on day two, with an even more convincing victory. Tokyo 2020 Olympian Anna Maliszewska and Rio 2016 Olympic bronze medallist Oktawia Nowacka were unbeatable throughout the Women’s Relay.

Gulnaz Gubaydullina & Adelina Ibatullina of Russia claimed the silver medal and Laser Run specialists Lithuania (Ieva Serapinaite & Aurelija Tamasauskaite) picked up the bronze.

The competition continues with the Men’s Individual event on September 3, with the Women’s Individual and Mixed Relay to follow. All results can be viewed at the UIPM website.
