Athletes Committee

The Athletes’ Committee represents the interests of the athletes. It has the right to represent the athletes’ position to the General Assembly, the Executive Board and the Committees, in particular to the Technical and the Medical Committees.

The Technical Committee prepares proposal for motions concerning the elaboration and changes of the Competition Rules and qualification rules for the Olympic Games and World Championships and it provides its non-binding advice to the General Assembly and/or the Executive Board (as the case may be) from a technical standpoint on motions concerning technical rules of UIPM. The Technical Committee provides the Executive Board with a report on technical matters concerning UIPM sports.

The Business Affairs Committee (BAC) is comprised of the Finance, Marketing and Media Commissions. The BAC duties are to provide the UIPM Executive Board with proposals regarding the financial, marketing and media issues, and undertake projects related to financial, marketing and media issues as requested by the UIPM Executive Board. The BAC also seeks out new sources of financial support for UIPM.

The Coaches’ Committee works in close cooperation with the Technical, Athletes’ and Medical Committees and the Continental Confederations to educate coaches and athletes, prepare coaches’ clinics and seminars, elaborate proposals on training, sport and other questions related in the interests of the coaches for discussion by the Technical Committee and discussion and decision by the Executive Board.

TUE Commission

If an athlete, to treat a pathological condition, requires a medication falling under the Prohibited List, a Therapeutic Use Exemption (TUE) may give that athlete the authorization to take the medicament he needs. Any decision regarding the grant, withdrawal, denial and recognition of TUE’s are taken by the UIPM Therapeutic Use Exemption Committee (TUEC). The TUEC is composed by at least 3 physicians with experience in the care and treatment of athletes and a recognized knowledge of clinical, sports and exercise medicine. The TUEC may seek whatever medical or scientific expertise it deems appropriate in reviewing the circumstances of any application for a TUE. A Therapeutic Use Exemption will be granted only in strict accordance with the following criteria:

The athlete should submit an application for a TUE on a form provided by the UIPM.
The athlete would experience a significant impairment to health if the Prohibited Substance or Prohibited Method were to be withheld in the course of treating an acute or chronic medical condition.
The therapeutic use of the Prohibited Substance or Prohibited Method would produce no additional enhancement of performance other than that which might be anticipated by a return to a state of normal health following the treatment of a legitimate medical condition.
There would be no reasonable therapeutic alternative to the Use of the otherwise Prohibited Substance or Prohibited Method.

Medical Committee

The Medical Committee is responsible for all medical questions of UIPM and for supervising compliance of UIPM Rules and Policy with WADA requirements. The Medical Committee shall also inform the Secretary-General if there is a report on suspected doping of an A-sample and take part in the elaboration of Rules which may have medical consequences providing basic data for the elaboration thereof and report to the Executive Board on the activities carried out UIPM Medical Delegates.

Masters Committee

The Masters’ Committee represents the interests of the Masters to the General Assembly, to the Executive Board and the Committees. The chairperson of the Masters’ Committee reports to the Executive Board and the General Assembly.

Electoral Committee

The Electoral Committee oversees election process by: a) supervising the administrative process relating to the elections; b) monitoring compliance with the relevant regulations; c) ensuring the correct application of the applicable regulations; d) issuing instructions; e) admitting candidates; f) performing the requested eligibility checks on each candidate; and g) authorising debates or public meetings at the candidates’ request.

The Cultural and Education Commission is responsible for the promotion of culture and education through the sport of Modern Pentathlon in sport, general society and the IOC.

The Equipment Commission helps UIPM in developing and improving sports equipment standards. The Equipment Commission is also responsible for UIPM sports equipment’s homologation procedures, renewals and monitoring. The Equipment Commission shall also assess future compliance of new available equipment with UIPM Rules and Regulations.

Ethics Commission

The Ethics Commission assists and supports the President and the Executive Board on all questions relating to good governance and compliance with the IOC requirements in the field of governance of IFs.

The task of the Finance Commission is to assist the Treasurer and Executive Board concerning the use of income from sponsor and supplier contracts as well as from donations.

Innovation Commission

The Innovation Commission studies and monitors the sports’ environment and develops the strategy to be implemented by UIPM in its sports’ format. The Innovation Commission will monitor and analyse new tendencies and design formats and products to suit the market needs. The Innovation Commission is also responsible for creating summaries of new technologies available and give non-binding opinions on such developments to the UIPM Executive Board.

The Para-Pentathlon Commission assists the President and the Executive Board in the development of Para-Pentathlon and the relationships with the IPC and the athletes.

The Pierre de Coubertin Commission works in the framework of the International Pierre de Coubertin Committee and promotes the memory and ideals of Baron Pierre de Coubertin, founder of the sport of Modern Pentathlon.

Sport for All Commission

The Sports for all Commission proposes development projects and assists the development of the non-Olympic competitions administered by UIPM including, but not limited to, Biathle, Triathle, Tetrathlon and Laser-Run.

Doping Review Panel

In addition UIPM has a Doping Review Panel comprising the Chairperson and 3 members of differing nationalities and experienced in anti-doping, including a legal advisor.
