Fresh from an unforgettable 2024 that saw him crowned as Egypt’s only Olympic champion at the Paris 2024 Games, Ahmed Elgendy has been elected to lead the newly formed Athletes Committee of the Egyptian Olympic Committee.

Elgendy (EGY) said on social media that he had won the election by acclamation having earned the support of 22 voting members. Azmi Mahlaba (shooting) and Nouran Gohar (squash) will be the First and Second Deputy Presidents respectively.

Elgendy’s victory in the Men’s Final at Paris 2024 followed several years of success in elite Modern Pentathlon including a breakthrough silver medal at Tokyo 2020, which made him the first African pentathlete to stand on the Olympic podium. In 2018 he became Youth Olympic Games gold medallist in Buenos Aires (ARG), and in the same year won both the UIPM Junior and Youth world titles.

The good news for the Egyptian Modern Pentathlon Federation in the NOC elections continued with Sharif Elerian, UIPM Vice President, being confirmed as Honorary Secretary General after a 12-year tenure as Secretary General.

Egyptian Modern Pentathlon is also powerfully represented on the world stage by three-time Olympic pentathlete Aya Medany, a Member of the International Olympic Committee and former Member of the IOC Athletes Commission and UIPM Athletes Committee.
