World No.1 Michelle Gulyas of Hungary confirmed her class yet again by repeating her 2021 triumph at the Peridot Hungarian Indoor Championships in Budapest (HUN).

And there was a double celebration for the host nation in the annual season-opener as Andras Gall (HUN) won gold in the men’s event.

Gulyas (HUN) is one of the favourites for gold at the Paris 2024 Olympic Games after two exceptional seasons, and she dug deep to hold off the challenge of silver medallist Kerenza Bryson of Great Britain by a margin of 8sec. Malak Ismail of Egypt picked up the bronze.

Gall (HUN) scored a comfortable 27sec victory over silver medallist Leo Bories of France, with Pele Uibel of Germany finishing 4sec further back for bronze.

In all there were 63 male and 46 female competitors, with nine countries sending athletes to a competition that doubled as Hungary’s senior national championships.

The UIPM competition season begins with UIPM 2023 Pentathlon World Cup Cairo from March 7-12.
