Modern Pentathlon meets art: a cultural tribute to sport and Olympism
A new global initiative aims to rekindle the historic relationship between sport, Olympism and art.
The UIPM Commission for Culture and Education is celebrating the creative spirit of Modern Pentathlon by inviting members of the sport’s worldwide community to contribute to a special digital art collection.
Chaired by Dr Klaus Schormann, who also serves on the IOC Commission for Culture and Olympic Heritage, the Commission is inviting National Federations, their members and associates to contribute to a project that will highlight the cultural impact of Pentathlon.
This global project, which aligns with the Olympic values of creativity and cultural heritage, calls for the submission of artworks inspired by Modern Pentathlon. Submissions can include a wide variety of visual media — from paintings, drawings, sculpturesand photographs to installations, printsand even trophies or symbolic items that represent the sport in artistic form.
“In the spirit of celebrating the cultural dimension of sport and promoting Olympism and Modern Pentathlon through art, we invite contributions from across our global family,” said Dr Schormann, who served as UIPM President from 1993-2024. "Together, we can present a powerful homage to the harmony between sport and culture.”
Each artwork should be accompanied by:
- A high-quality photo or image of the piece
- The title of the work
- The artist’s name
- A brief description or history of the item and its connection to Modern Pentathlon
- The item’s current location (e.g., gallery, private collection, museum)
Please note: AI-generated artworks will not be accepted.
The submission deadline is Friday 26 September 2025. Selected pieces will be compiled into a digital gallery to be shared with the UIPM community and the wider Olympic Movement.
All contributions should be sent to anfisa.kasyanova@pentathlon.org
This initiative is a reminder that Modern Pentathlon is not only a sport of skill and versatility, but also a rich source of inspiration for artistic expression. Whether professional artists or passionate amateurs, we encourage all members of our community to share how they see the beauty of our sport through the lens of art, helping to build a legacy of creativity, diversity and cultural significance.
