UIPM 2019 Biathle/Triathle World Championships: Golden double for Achterberg and Elgeziry (USA)

They have both qualified for the Tokyo 2020 Olympic Games and two of the USA’s leading pentathletes continued to set the standard on day two of the UIPM 2019 Biathle/Triathle World Championships in Saint Petersburg (USA).

A day after winning gold in the senior Biathle Mixed Relay, Samantha Achterberg and Amro Elgeziry (USA) completed the double with a convincing victory in the Triathle Mixed Relay.

Again, their closest competition came from silver medallists Nadezhda Bekmaganbetova and Arman Kydyrtayev of Kazakhstan, while Vera Oettinger and Robin Schmidt claimed bronze for Germany.

The gold medals were shared among numerous nations, with world titles going to Japan, Great Britain, Egypt, France, Spain and South Africa as well as Germany and Kazakhstan.

More than 420 athletes from 33 countries are taking part across Biathle (Run-Swim-Run) and Triathle (Swim-Run-Shoot), and the individual medals will be decided in the next two days with Triathle on Saturday, October 26 and Biathle on Sunday, October 27.

Competing on the Florida beach this week are people with an age span of more than 60 years. The age categories in Biathle range from Under-9 to Masters 70+ while Triathle spans Under-11 to Masters 60+.
