UIPM 2022 Pentathlon Junior World Championships: Men’s Semi-finals
The UIPM 2022 Pentathlon Junior World Championships continued today with 36 athletes competing for a place in the Men’s Final.
Egypt was the best-performing team with four athletes qualifying for the 18-strong Final, including senior world silver medallist Mohamed Elgendy (EGY), who will start on ‘Super Saturday’ 15 points behind overall leader Radoslav Stoychev of Bulgaria.
Semi-final A was won by Moutaz Mohamed (EGY), 2sec ahead of Titas Puronas of Lithuania, Charles Brown of Great Britain, Melvin Perrier of France and Elgendy (EGY).
Another Egyptian, Noureldim Karim (EGY), won Semi-final B with the same points total (1,177), finishing just ahead of Stoychev (BUL), Yuriy Kovalchuk of Ukraine and Mihaly Koleszar of Hungary.
Stoychev (BUL) starred in the Fencing Ranking Round, scoring 26V/8D, three more victories than the totals achieved by Koleszar (HUN), Elgendy (EGY), Leo Bories (FRA) and Puronas (LTU).
This is the first Junior World Championships to feature the new elimination format for individual competitions, as designed for the Paris 2024 Olympic Games. Athletes must progress through Qualification and Semi-finals to earn a place in the Final.
