UIPM 2022 Youth World Championships (U19/U17): President’s welcome

Dear athletes, dear coaches and trainers, dear guests and officials!  

Welcome to the UIPM 2022 Youth World Championships (U19/U17), a very important competition for new generations of pentathletes and for the development of our Olympic multi-sport Modern Pentathlon.

Italy has a long tradition of organising high-level UIPM international competitions in all age categories. The historic city of Lignano Sabbiadoro here on the Adriatic Sea will provide all participants with a wonderful urban atmosphere.

Italian hospitality is well known and we all will enjoy this! My special thanks go to Prof Fabrizio Bittner, President of FIPM, and his Organizing Committee for the excellent preparation. I also want to thank all volunteers, sponsors, supporters, government and media representatives – as well as the President of the National Olympic Committee (CONI), Giovanni Malago.

I am also grateful to President Bittner and his team for supporting the New Pentathlon Discipline Test Event that will take place here on the beach on September 9/10, following the earlier Test Events in Ankara (TUR) and Manila (PHI).

First we are focusing on the World Championships! My best wishes go to all athletes and I know they will achieve the best possible results in a spirit of fair play.

We are also coming together to build new friendships and to share wonderful social moments! Let’s have a competition in the spirit of Pierre de Coubertin, respecting the Olympic values and standing together in peace, solidarity and for a better world protecting the environment.

Let’s have enjoyable days with our Youth of Modern Pentathlon.
