  • First two Paris 2024 Olympic qualification places on the line in Ankara (TUR)
  • Reigning champions Clouvel (FRA) and Jun (KOR) aiming for back-to-back gold
  • Can Choong (GBR) and Asadauskaite (LTU) repeat heroics of 2019?

The Union Internationale de Pentathlon Moderne (UIPM) is delighted to announce the 72 athletes who will compete for the first Paris 2024 Olympic Games qualification places during one of Modern Pentathlon’s showcase competitions.

The line-up for the UIPM 2023 Pentathlon World Cup Final, taking place in Ankara (TUR) for the second successive year, includes 2022 champions Elodie Clouvel of France and Woongtae Jun of Korea, among a host of other pentathlon luminaries.

The competition takes on extra significance this year as two automatic quota places at Paris 2024 are on offer – one each for the women’s and men’s gold medallist.

Last time the Pentathlon World Cup Final carried this status, in Tokyo (JPN) in 2019, the men’s winner was Joseph Choong of Great Britain, who went on to win Olympic gold at Tokyo 2020. And the women’s champion was Laura Asadauskaite of Lithuania, who claimed silver in the same Olympic Games.

Both Asadauskaite (LTU) and Choong (GBR) will be on the start list in Ankara (TUR), the latter as reigning world champion. The 2022 women’s world champion, Elena Micheli of Italy, will also be there, as will the athlete who topped the UIPM 2023 Pentathlon World Cup standings with gold and bronze medals, Ieva Serapinaite (LTU).

On the men’s side, Jun (KOR) is currently world No.1 but it was Mohanad Shaban of Egypt who performed best during the four rounds in Cairo (EGY), Ankara (TUR), Budapest (HUN) and Sofia (BUL), earning the top spot in the standings with a silver and a gold.

All 36 female and male qualifiers are listed below, along with the 12 nations that qualified to take part in the Mixed Relay – where Mexico are sure to be worth watching, having won silver in all four Pentathlon World Cups this season.

UIPM President Dr Klaus Schormann said: “The UIPM 2023 Pentathlon World Cup has already been a magnificent showcase for our sport, with thrilling races in Cairo, Ankara, Budapest and Sofia enabling 72 athletes – 36 women and 36 men – to earn their chance to compete in the prestigious Pentathlon World Cup Final.”

All Semi-finals and Finals at the UIPM 2023 Pentathlon World Cup Final (from June 1-4) will be televised live on UIPM.TV.
