UIPM 2025 Pentathlon World Cup Pazardzhik: Khalil (EGY), Tognetti (ITA) and Castaudi (FRA) excel in Women’s Qualification

Farida Khalil of Egypt again showed the world how to negotiate the new Modern Pentathlon format as she dominated Women’s Qualification on the first day of UIPM 2025 Pentathlon World Cup Pazardzhik in Bulgaria.

Fourteen-year-old Khalil (EGY) extended her Obstacle world record to 30.85sec and scored a remarkable 1,445 points to win Group B by more than a minute from Florina Jurt of Switzerland, with Beatrice Mercuri of Italy, Malak Ismail (EGY) and world No.2 Blanka Guzi of Hungary not far behind.

World No.3 Ilke Ozyuksel of Türkiye also secured qualification to the Semi-finals in her first global competition since the Paris 2024 Olympic Games.

Group A was closer, with Aurora Tognetti (ITA) and Rebecca Castaudi of France crossing the line together with a score of 1,403, narrowly ahead of Malgorzata Karbownik of Poland.

Among the chasing pack securing one of the last 36 Semi-final places was Paris 2024 bronze medallist, 2024 world champion and world No.1 Seungmin Seong of Korea, who placed 5th in Group A.

Paris 2024 Olympians Lucie Hlavackova of Czechia and Genevieve Janse van Rensburg of Australia were among a small group of six athletes who suffered elimination in Obstacle.

Pentathlon World Cup Pazardzhik continues tomorrow (May 8) with Men's Qualification and the Women’s Fencing Seeding Round, followed by the Semi-finals on May 9-10 and the Finals on May 11.
