UIPM 2026 Pentathlon Junior World Championships: Meyer (SUI) and Bauer (HUN) lead the line in Women’s Semi-finals
Vivienne Meyer of Switzerland and Blanka Bauer of Hungary led the line as 18 athletes qualified for the Women’s Final on the third day of the UIPM 2026 Pentathlon Junior World Championships in Kaunas (LTU).
Meyer (SUI) was a runaway winner in Semi-final A, jogging to the finish line as she qualified comfortably for the Final ahead of Chloe Johnson of Great Britain and Coline Flavin of France. There was a batch of qualifiers behind them before Martina Rutkauskaite of host nation Lithuania snared the 9th and final place.
Meyer (SUI) won the Fencing Direct Elimination after a Top 2 fight with Samira Abzalova of Uzbekistan, with Flavin (FRA) and Johnson (GBR) both reaching the Top 4. The top performer in Obstacle Racing and the only athlete to break the 30sec mark was Zeina Amer of Egypt, although Meyer (SUI) and Orsolya Varga of Hungary breached 32sec.
Swimming was predictably dominated by Wakana Uchiyama of Japan (1min 01.81sec), but Hanna Jakubowska of Poland also impressed with a low 1:02. Josefine Unterberger of Germany recorded the best Laser Run time of 11:19.24, but fell just short of the top nine, where her team-mate Charlotte Keister (GER) rose two places to 7th and Rutkauskaite (LTU) held on to 9th.
Semi-final B saw a remarkable Laser Run comeback from Bauer (HUN), who started in 14th and rose all the way to the top of the field to cross first, XXsec ahead of Pentathlon World Cup medallist Ganah Elgindy (EGY) and European junior champion Florina Jurt (SUI).
Fencing could not have gone better for Elgindy’s team-mate Jana Attia (EGY), who fended off Florina Jurt (SUI) in the Top 2 with team-mates Amaya El-Masri (GER) and Nadja Farmand (GER) also reaching the Top 4. Like Amer (EGY) earlier in the day, Attia (EGY) stood out in Obstacle Racing with an almost identical time, with Diana Rajncsak (HUN) and Katharina Jurt (SUI) just on the other side of 30sec.
Guste Peciulyte (LTU) took a major stride towards the Final with a fastest Swimming performance of 58.37, with Eva Marsh (GBR) also breaking the 1min barrier. That wasn’t quite enough for the British athlete to earn another race on Monday, as she proved unable to catch Nadja Farmand (GER) and had to settle for 10th.
