UIPM 2026 Pentathlon World Championships: Dogue (GER) and Mohamed (EGY) shine in Men’s Qualification
The defending champion, the in-form veteran and an emerging teenage talent — Guiyang (CHN) got a full-flavoured taste of the best of Pentathlon as Men’s Qualification at the UIPM 2026 Pentathlon World Championships served up helpings of excitement.
With weather having led to the opening salvos of the Men’s competition being stretched across two days in China’s Forest City, reigning world champ Moutaz Mohamed of Egypt showed the disruptions had no impact as he returned from injury in fine fashion by securing safe and impressive passage to Friday’s Semi-finals.
With 112 competitors lining up in Qualification, Mohamed (EGY) topped Group C with a typically faultless display. He was followed across the line by compatriot Mohamed El Ashqar (EGY) who was again eye-catching in Obstacle Racing as he scorched the course in 19.54sec, the only athlete to go sub-20 seconds. Group C also saw Korea legend Woongtae Jun safely navigate his way into the top 12 to progress, with home hopeful Bailiang Chen of China impressing too.
Earlier, Marvin Faly Dogue of Germany continued his remarkable season. The 30-year-old completed a landmark triumph in the UIPM 2026 Pentathlon World Cup Final in Budapest (HUN) earlier in the summer and topped all qualifiers with a whopping total of 1583 points. Close behind him was Mohanad Shaban (EGY), a star of the Paris 2024 Olympic cycle showing resurgent form. On an impressive day for veterans, two-time world champion Valentin Belaud of France also secured his Semi-final spot with Olympian Shuai Luo (CHN) also progressing.
In Group A, there was a bolt from the blue as teenager Nolan Rossenegger of Canada topped the 37-strong cohort. The 19-year-old may be competing in a first senior World Championships but arrived in form having taken gold at the 2026 South and Pan Am Championships in Lima (PER). He was followed by Moriz Klinkert (GER) with Changwan Seo (KOR), fresh from Mixed Relay gold alongside teammate Seungmin Seong earlier in the week, next. Also comfortably progressing were current World No.1 Matej Lukes of Czechia and Paris 2024 Olympic bronze medalist Giorgio Malan of Italy.
The 36 Semi-finalists will be split into two groups of 18 and return on Friday to battle for a spot in Sunday’s Men’s Final.
