UIPM Executive Board updates: July 2026

UIPM News

Athletes and teams from Russia will have free rein to represent their country in UIPM Sports from next month, following the UIPM Executive Board’s decision to lift all restrictions against their participation.

The change, which follows the lifting of all restrictions on the participation of Belarus athletes and teams in May 2026, will come into effect during the 2026 European Senior Championships in Istanbul (TUR) starting on August 3.

Russian athletes have competed as Individual Neutral Athletes (AIN) following UIPM’s alignment with the International Olympic Committee (IOC) recommendations in March 2023 and the appointment of an independent panel to review AIN eligibility two months later.

On July 7, 2026, the IOC provisionally lifted its suspension of the Russian Olympic Committee and dropped the recommendations to International Federations (IFs) that had been applicable to the participation of Russian athletes and teams since the country’s military invasion of Ukraine.

UIPM EB Members met online on July 8 and voted in favour of lifting restrictions on Russian athletes and teams, with effect from the upcoming European Championships and in time for the flagship UIPM 2026 Pentathlon World Championships in Guiyang (CHN). The AIN system for athletes with Russian passports will continue to be implemented during the age-group UIPM World Championships in July and August, after which there will be no restrictions at any level of UIPM’s competition circuit.

The EB also approved a request from the Modern Pentathlon Federation of India to change the venue of the UIPM 2027 Laser Run World Championships from Pune to Jaipur.
