UIPM Judges Certification Programme: Energy and excitement in Yogyakarta (INA)
Indonesia’s status as a hub for UIPM sports has continued to grow impressively in recent years and the pivotal infrastructure grows with it.
A significant cohort of students took their first steps on the judging ladder and others continued to climb it during a very successful recent UIPM Judges Certification Course in Yogyakarta (INA).
Having staged an unforgettable edition of the UIPM Biathle/Triathle World Championships on the golden sands of Bali just over two years ago, the more recent focus has shifted to central Java’s ‘Royal City’.
Yogyakarta hosted last year’s Biathle/Triathle/Laser Run Southeast Asian Championships and will soon stage the 2026 AMPC U19 & U17 Asian Championships.
With that in mind, UIPM Educator and Technical Committee Member Rui Lucena (POR) put an eager group of 30 students from Indonesia through a comprehensive JCP course which saw the 3 women and 27 men log on for two weeks of online theory before gathering in late March for a week of on-site practice.

The course focused on Modern Pentathlon and Biathle/Triathle and saw students achieve Levels 1, 2 and 3 certification ahead of the 2026 AMPC U19 & U17 Asian Championships, which takes place in Yogyakarta from May 10-17.
UIPM JCP educator Rui Lucena (POR) said: “This was a really energized and focused group of students who were eager to begin or continue their journey with our sports. It was a privilege to develop their judging skills in all aspects of both Pentathlon and Biathle-Triathle. Their dedication is a great sign for what is going to be a busy time in the region.”
AMPC Secretary General Sangkeong Yeo (KOR) said: “As we continue to grow our sports across the Asian region, Indonesia has been a consistently positive federation. This course has continued the task of developing resources for Pentathlon to grow. My sincere thanks to UIPM for their support and to Modern Pentathlon Indonesia and my warm congratulations to all the students. We look forward to the 2026 AMPC U19 & U17 Asian Championships.”
