UIPM statement on Qian Chen (CHN)

UIPM News

The UIPM Doping Review Panel has imposed a four-year suspension on the athlete Qian Chen (China) following her disqualification from the Rio 2016 Olympic Games.

The athlete was found to have committed a doping violation during the Rio Games after testing positive for the banned substance Hydrochlorothiazide (HCTZ), a diuretics or masking agent. The 4th place she achieved in the Women’s Final has been removed from the records.

Following proceedings at the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS), the UIPM Doping Review Panel invited Qian Chen to take part in a process of hearing and adjudication. The panel concluded that the athlete had provided no evidence of mitigating circumstances and imposed a four-year period of ineligibility dated from August 22, 2016.

The UIPM has been advised by Qian Chen that she has now retired from Modern Pentathlon.
