UIPM 2025 PENTATHLON JUNIOR WORLD CHAMPIONSHIPS: ALL YOU NEED TO KNOW
- Khalil (EGY) reunited with 2024 top two Sazonova and Skudnyakova (AIN)
- Mohamed and Abouamer (EGY) face up to Popov (UKR)
- YouTube coverage opens up live Pentathlon to the world
All six individual medallists from 2024 reconvene for what is sure to be a hotly-contested UIPM 2025 Pentathlon Junior World Championships over the next five days.
With live coverage of a competition (see below) to be beamed out live and unrestricted on the UIPM YouTube channel for the first time, the world will get a glimpse of some athletes destined to feature prominently at the Los Angeles 2028 Olympic Games and beyond.
Three athletes from Egypt, two Individual Neutral Athletes and one from Ukraine will give everything in defence of their titles. The undoubted favourite for Women’s Individual gold is the young teenager who claimed bronze 12 months ago, and went on to dominate the UIPM 2025 Pentathlon World Cup: Farida Khalil (EGY).
The duo that managed to hold off the starlet last time, Viktoriia Sazonova (AIN) and Elizaveta Skudnyakova (AIN), might be struck by the maturity of the now 14-year-old when the athletes line up in Qualification today.
On the men’s side, it is a similar story with an athlete from North Africa in irresistible form – reigning champion Moutaz Mohamed (EGY) will be hard to stop, both within his team from the likes of 2024 silver medallist Moustafa Abouamer (EGY) and from the pan-continental challenge that awaits him, including impressive Roman Popov (UKR).

How it works
Get set for five days of individual competition in the sequence of Fencing, Obstacle, Swimming and Laser Run – a new format that was introduced at the start of the 2025 season.
Fencing now features a quickfire direct elimination format where athletes must win 1min bouts to remain in the competition. In Qualification there is a traditional Ranking Round, and prior to the Semi-finals there is a Seeding Round that dictates where athletes are placed in the knockout draw.
Fencing is followed by Obstacle, where athletes race head to head over a 70m course featuring eight obstacles.
Action then switches to the Swimming pool for a 200m freestyle before athletes line up for Laser Run – five running laps of 600m with four visits to the shooting range. The first athlete across the finish line wins!
