Modern Pentathlon

Valentin Belaud of France and Mohanad Shaban of Egypt showed the value of experience as they bossed the Men’s Qualification at UIPM 2026 Pentathlon World Cup Cairo.

It was a strong day for both the host nation, with world No.1 Moutaz Mohamed (EGY) also qualifying closely behind Belaud (FRA) in Heat 1, and for the French, with Diego Lavillat (FRA) finishing 1st in Heat 3.

Both of the leading nations had six athletes finish in the top 12 of their heats, earning the right to return for Saturday’s Semi-finals. China led the Asian challenge, qualifying four athletes for the last 36.

Two-time world champion Belaud (FRA) took credit for the highest points tally of the day, with a booming 1,592 ahead of Mohamed (EGY) and Csaba Bohm of Hungary.

Lavillat (FRA) scored 1,575 to finish just ahead of local hope and Obstacle specialist Mohamed El Ashqar (EGY) in Heat 3, while Shaban (EGY) – winner of the 2023 Pentathlon World Cup Final – eased off as he topped Heat 2 ahead of Mohamed Hassan (EGY).
