UIPM officially becomes sole governing body for global Obstacle Sports community

The completion of the 2026 World Obstacle OCR World Championships in Limerick, Ireland on August 10 marked the end of the event and the dissolution of the Fédération Internationale de Sports d’Obstacles (FISO), as per the decision taken by the FISO Congress in March 2026.

The integration of FISO into UIPM at International Federation level is therefore complete and the UIPM 2026 Obstacle World Championships in Beijing, part of the ‘Race Across China’, becomes the first World Championships to take place since the unification.

The competition is taking place in Universal Studios Beijing Resort with athletes from 40-50 nations expected to send athletes, with the capital city of China having signed a four-year hosting agreement spanning 2025-2028.

UIPM President Rob Stull said: “The integration of Obstacle Sports into UIPM is part of an ongoing effort to create the biggest multisport movement in the world, and the dissolution of FISO marks another milestone in that journey. This has been a lengthy process stretching back over a decade and the intense collaborative work of the past couple of years culminated on August 10.

“Many people are working hard every day to fully integrate our communities, especially at national level, so that every aspiring athlete can feel part of the UIPM Sports pyramid with the Olympic sport of Modern Pentathlon at the top. Ian Adamson has done an incredible job on leading the effort to bring Obstacle Sports into the mainstream over the past decade, and we are delighted he now has an important role within UIPM as Chair of the UIPM Obstacle Commission.
