The women’s Olympic champion from London 2012, Laura Asadauskaite (LTU) is sure to be podium contender in Poland as a high-class field competes for ranking points ahead of the World Cup Final in Vilnius (LTU) in June.

Also on the start line will be two silver medallist from the last Olympic Games in London 2012 and Rio 2016: Samantha Murray (GBR) and Elodie Clouvel (FRA). Other possible contenders will be Kim Sunwoo (KOR) and Annika Schleu (GER) while Anna Maliszewska (POL) is a local athlete to keep an eye on.

In the men’s event, Pavlo Tymoshchenko (UKR) will start as the most likely favourite after completing the set of gold, silver and bronze in the first three rounds of the 2017 World Cup.

His main challengers are likely to be James Cooke and Joe Choong (GBR), Jun Woongtae (KOR), Patrick Dogue (GER) and the 2016 world champion Valentin Belaud (FRA).

Much will be expected from the home crowd of Rio 2016 Olympian Szymon Staskiewicz (POL), while Arthur Lanigan-O’Keeffe (IRL) makes his first appearance of the season, as does female compatriot Natalya Coyle (IRL).

UIPM President Dr Klaus Schormann said: “Drzonków is an important destination for our flagship competitions. It is known worldwide as one of the best Modern Pentathlon training centres with excellent facilities and horse environment.

“This is a favoured destination for many nations to prepare athletes for international championships and I know the athletes will perform at a high level with the World Cup Final in Vilnius now very near on the horizon.

“I am sure the sporting community and public of Drzonków will enjoy this competition and will give the athletes strong support in these beautiful sporting facilities.”
