World Military Games 2019: Abdelmaksoud and Hamad (EGY) do it again

Modern Pentathlon

Seven weeks after becoming world champions in Budapest (HUN), Salma Abdelmaksoud and Eslam Hamad of Egypt rediscovered the winning formula to win the Mixed Relay at the World Military Games Modern Pentathlon in Wuhan (CHN).

With 13 nations competing for the last medals of the Games, Egypt (Abdelmaksoud & Hamad) prevailed in a tight contest by 9sec from Blanka Guzi and Adam Marosi of Hungary, who were forced to settle for silver.

There was more success for the host nation as Wang Wei and Zhang Linbin of China emerged from a tough battle with Italy (Elena Micheli & Gianluca Micozzi) to claim bronze.

Modern Pentathlon was one of 31 sports on the programme in Wuhan (CHN), where the official slogan is ‘Military Glory / World Peace’.

The competition was overseen by CISM Modern Pentathlon and its President, Col Nilton Rolim, and the UIPM Technical Delegate Dmitrii Menshikov, with UIPM President Dr Klaus Schormann also in attendance.

Referees, judges and volunteers were provided by the Chinese Modern Pentathlon Association, which is preparing for a big year in 2020 as Xiamen (CHN) hosts the UIPM World Pentathlon and Laser Run World Championships in May and the UIPM Congress in November.
