Nineteen coaches up and running after Level 1 course in Kabul (AFG)

Nineteen Afghan pentathlon coaches – including three women – have become the latest recruits to the UIPM Coaching Certification Programme after completing a Level 1 course in Kabul.

The course took place in the Police Academy in Afghanistan’s capital city from June 9-13, overseen by UIPM Instructor Jawid Kahar (AFG).

The coaches were recruited from the Police Academy, various Army departments and the Afghanistan Modern Pentathlon Federation.

A spokesperson said: “The three women participants made a great contribution and in fact one of the three top performers in the course was a woman, which is a great sign for the promotion of women’s sport in the country.”

Hafiz Wali Rahimy, President of the National Olympic Committee of the Islamic Republic of Afghanistan and the General Directorate of Physical Education and Sport, attended the opening ceremony and thanked the Afghanistan Modern Pentathlon Federation (AFMP) and UIPM for holding the course in Afghanistan.

Christian Roudaut, UIPM Coaches Committee Chair, said: “It was very important for the pentathlon movement in Asia and the wider sports movement in Afghanistan to give coaches access to this introductory Level 1 course under the CCP.

“I am grateful to the Afghan Federation for facilitating this initiative and I am very pleased for the 16 men and three women who successfully passed the course. I wish them every success with their future as pentathlon coaches.”
