6th World Military Games in Korea comes to a close with great performances

Women`s Individual

Elodie Clouvel won the swimming, but the leaderboard changed several times throughout the competition day. Ekaterina Khuraskina from Russia won the fencing, with Anastasia Spas from Ukraine leading the field going into the riding. Over a selective riding course she could maintain her lead and starting the final leg of the day in first place. Several athletes fighting for the medals finally saw Polish Athlete Oktawia Nowacka as the winner of women’s competition. Not only confirming her ongoing progress, but also confirmed her strong form after finishing top 5 at the recent European Championships. The silver medal was won by Ekaterina Khuraskina, Russia and the bronze medal went to China with Wang Wei in 3rd place. The team gold medal was won by China, followed in 2nd by Russia and 3rd Ukraine, with only 7 points ahead of Lithuania.

Men`s Individual

Men’s final started with the American Logan Wilson Storie winning the swimming, clocking 1:57 and Ukrainian Andriy Fedechko winning the fencing. The best performance in the bonus round was shown by Egyptian Omar El Geziry winning 6 consecutive bouts. His brother Amro was top of the board after two events and maintained his lead after the riding, starting the Combined in first place. Local athlete, Korean Dong Su Park started in second, but went on to win the overall competition and securing the gold medal for his country. German Alexander Nobis put in a fabulous Combined and with the best performance of the day he moved up twelve places to finish second overall. Amro El Geziry secured third place for Egypt.

In a very exciting and close race Russia finally won the gold medal in the team event, ahead of Egypt which finished 2nd. Italy finished 3rd, beating Ukraine by just 6 points.

Mixed-Relay

In the Mixed–Relay competition the Brazilian team took the lead early in the morning with the fastest swim time to finish second and win the silver medal for their country at the end of the day. The Latvian Team won the fencing, France the riding; but Poland won the gold medal today. In a very close race, in heavy rain they moved up from second in the combine to win the competition. It was their second gold medal in Modern Pentathlon during the 6th CISM world Games and gave their team another opportunity to celebrate a victory. Lithuania won the bronze medal, outrunning Italy by only one second.
