CISM visit to UIPM Headquarters in Monaco signals new era of cooperation between Pentathlon and military sport
On 5 December 2025, Lieutenant Commander Andreas Idra, President of the CISM Modern Pentathlon Sport Committee, visited the UIPM Headquarters in Monaco for an official courtesy meeting.
This marked his first visit to the HQ in his capacity as PCSC for Modern Pentathlon within the governing body of international military sport.
The meeting aimed to strengthen the relationship between the CISM Modern Pentathlon Committee and UIPM, fostering closer institutional cooperation.
Discussions between Lt Cdr Idra and UIPM Secretary General Shiny Fang focused on future editions of the CISM World Championships and the CISM World Games, as well as broader strategies for the development of Modern Pentathlon within Armed Forces globally.

Modern Pentathlon has a storied association with military training, stretching right back to the roots of the sport as imagined by Baron Pierre de Coubertin, and the majority of participants and champions in the early years were serving military officers.
That association has survived to this day with a significant proportion of current pentathletes serving in their national militaries. At the 49th CISM World Military Championships in November 2025, three-time Olympian Ilke Ozyuksel of Türkiye and of Paris 2024 Olympian Oleksandr Tovkai of Ukraine were the individual champions.
