UIPM 2023 Pentathlon World Cup Cairo: High five for Egypt after Men’s Semi-finals

Egypt dominated the fourth day of UIPM 2023 Pentathlon World Cup Cairo, with five athletes earning a place in the Men’s Final.

With the day’s top score of 1,176 points, Emiliano Hernandez of Mexico won the first Semi-final by 4sec from Mohanad Shaban (EGY) and Ahmed Elgendy (EGY), Csaba Bohm of Hungary and Pierre Dejardin of France.

Martin Vlach of Czech Republic crossed the line first in the second Semi-final, 1sec ahead of Pavlo Tymoshchenko of Ukraine, Mohamed Elgendy (EGY) and Moutaz Mohamed (EGY). Ahmed Hamed (EGY) was only 1sec further behind.

Shaban (EGY) will go into Saturday’s Final with an overall lead of 10 points after scoring 26V/9D in the Fencing Ranking Round, with Tymoshchenko (UKR) registering 24V/11D.

Among the other athletes to watch in the 18-strong Final line-up will be Valentin Prades (FRA) and Valentin Belaud (FRA) and Changwan Seo of Korea and Taishu Sato of Japan.

UIPM 2023 Pentathlon World Cup Cairo reaches a climax tomorrow (March 11) with the Women’s and Men’s Finals, with the Mixed Relay concluding the competition on May 12.
