UIPM 2026 Pentathlon World Championships: All You Need To Know
- Race Across China brings 75+ nations together in global celebration

The Race Across China is about to begin. With an expected 2,000 participants from more than 75 nations, the world’s most versatile athletes are poised to compete in the combined UIPM 2026 Pentathlon World Championships and UIPM 2026 Obstacle World Championships.
The gathering of so many nations and athletes in two of China’s great urban conurbations underlines the growing global accessibility and popularity of UIPM Sports and the increasingly diverse community flourishing under the UIPM umbrella.
The Race Across China will showcase the breadth and energy of the UIPM Sports brand on a truly multi-national stage. From the world’s leading pentathletes to specialists in the rapidly expanding world of Ninja-style Obstacle Racing, the next two weeks promises to dazzle audiences onsite in Guiyang’s Huaxi Lake Park and Universal Studios Beijing Resort, while captivating millions online.
Seven days of elite Pentathlon competition will begin on August 24 with the Women’s and Men’s Relays (see full schedule below). The show then moves to the capital city where Obstacle Racing formats of 100m, 400m and 3km will be contested from September 2-6.
Pentathlon: athletes to watch
The Egypt gold-medal machine that seemed unstoppable 12 months ago in Kaunas (LTU) has stalled somewhat in 2026, but it will be intriguing to see how the team bounces back this week with men’s Olympic champion Ahmed Elgendy and women’s world champion Farida Khalil returning to the fray. Reigning men’s world champion Moutaz Mohamed also comes back after injury, while Obstacle world record-holder Mohamed El Ashqar has been a standout performer this season and Ganah Elgindy has also shown podium prowess.
Hungary is undoubtedly the other leading nation in elite Pentathlon this Olympic cycle, and world No.1 Blanka Guzi will be seen as the woman to beat. Freshly crowned European champion Ilke Ozyuksel of Türkiye is also in the form of her life, while it is worth recalling that the last time the showpiece came to China, the champion was current world No.2 Seungmin Seong of Korea, who went on to scale the Olympic podium at Paris 2024.
Form guides are often reliable in Pentathlon so it would be unwise to rule out the winners of the UIPM 2026 Pentathlon World Cup Final – Anna Jurt of Switzerland and Marvin Dogue of Germany – nor this year’s junior world champions, Malgorzata Karbownik of Poland and Matteo Bovenzi of Italy.
Host nation China is sure to have a strong say in the outcome, with three athletes having enjoyed top-five Pentathlon World Cup finishes this year – Liuchang Li, Shuai Luo and Yuang Ma – and good strength in the women’s category too. Neighbours Korea will also hope to prosper with a strong team led by Changwan Seo, while the full return of Russia to UIPM competition alongside Belarus will be instructive, especially given their prowess in Fencing. Egor Gromadskii (RUS) recently became European champion, indicating that one of the historic powers of Pentathlon is very much back.
