Senior UIPM office-bearers wrote a letter of congratulations to Dr Thomas Bach immediately after his re-election as President of the International Olympic Committee (IOC) on Wednesday, March 10, 2021.

The UIPM President, Dr Klaus Schormann, signed the letter alongside Juan Antonio Samaranch, UIPM 1st Vice President and IOC Member, and Joel Bouzou OLY, UIPM Vice-President and President of the World Olympians Association.

President Dr Schormann said: “The re-election of Dr Thomas Bach as President is wonderful news for the Olympic movement and I wish him every success on behalf of the global UIPM community and also personally.

“The mandate to extend his Presidency until 2025 gives President Dr Bach and his team a wonderful opportunity to deliver on the goals of Olympic Agenda 2020+5.

“We are certain that the Olympic movement, as established by the founder of Modern Pentathlon, Baron Pierre de Coubertin, will continue to flourish and prosper under the leadership of Thomas Bach.”

Dr Bach’s re-election has been one of the highlights of the 137th IOC Session, taking place online. The Session featured a report from Mr Samaranch, in his capacity as Coordination Commission Chair for the Beijing 2022 Olympic Winter Games.

UIPM’s Honorary President, Prince Albert II of Monaco, also addressed his fellow IOC Members as Chair of the IOC Sustainability and Legacy Commission.
