A new cohort of Modern Pentathlon judges has completed the UIPM Judges Certification Programme (JCP) in Santo Domingo, strengthening the technical officiating pathway in the Dominican Republic ahead of future regional multisport competitions including the 25th Central American and Caribbean (CAC) Games.

The course provided certification opportunities across Levels 1, 2 and 3 of the JCP and was designed to enhance judging expertise while preparing officials for the demands of high-level international competition such as the CAC Games, which take place in Santo Domingo from July 24 to August 8.

A total of 27 students from the Dominican Republic participated in the programme, including 12 female participants. The course began with an online theory component held from April 10-27 before moving to Santo Domingo for on-site theory and practical sessions from May 1-5.

The programme was delivered by experienced UIPM Technical Committee Member Rafael Acosta (ARG), who guided participants through the principles, regulations and practical responsibilities required of Modern Pentathlon judges.

The JCP is a key element of UIPM’s education structure, supporting the development of qualified technical officials and helping to ensure consistent standards across competitions worldwide.

Acosta praised the commitment shown by the participants throughout the course and highlighted the significance of investing in officiating education.

“The engagement of this group was excellent from the beginning of the online sessions through to the practical work in Santo Domingo,” he said. “Strong judges are essential to the growth of our sport and these participants demonstrated enthusiasm, professionalism and a real desire to continue developing. Their progress will benefit Modern Pentathlon in the Dominican Republic and the wider region.”

Magdalena Quintanilla, President of the NORCECA Confederation, welcomed the successful delivery of the course and emphasised its importance as countries in the region prepare to host and participate in major events.

“Education is fundamental to the sustainable development of Modern Pentathlon across NORCECA,” she said. “Programmes like the Judges Certification Programme help create opportunities for officials to grow while ensuring our competitions continue to meet international standards. We are pleased to see such strong participation in Santo Domingo and I thank Rafael Acosta for his expertise and UIPM for the support.”
