UIPM mourns death of Mr Cerny

One of the most influential members of the Slovak Modern Pentathlon Association, Vladimir Cerny, passed away on October 30, 2016 at the age of 90.

Mr Cerny became an Olympian in Melbourne in 1956 when he competed for Czechoslovakia, which he also did at numerous World Championships.

He went on to be a senior administrator of the sport, first with the Czechoslovakian Modern Pentathlon Federation and, in 1968, when he was elected to the Executive Board of what was then UIPMB: the Union Internationale de Pentathlon Moderne et Biathlon.

Mr Cerny was Vice-President of UIPMB, responsible for media and promotion, from 1984 until 1988. After that he continued to serve the sport in his native Slovakia.

His funeral is scheduled to take place on November 10 in Bratislava.
