08.07.2021: EMPC Congress

UIPM President Dr Schormann attended the virtual Congress of the European Modern Pentathlon Confederation, which took place in Nizhny Novgorod (RUS) during the European Championships (due to travel restrictions, he was not able to attend in person).

A new EMPC Executive Board was elected with Tatiana Ardabyeva, who has successfully managed EMPC activities very well for many years as Secretary General, elected as President.

 

16.07.2021: Darmstadt, GER

The UIPM President was joined by Secretary General Shiny Fang for a meeting with Susanne Wiedemann (Sport Director) and Danja Schmidt (Office Administrator) of the German Modern Pentathlon Federation (DVMF). They discussed the sport-political landscape and how the DVMF can be more involved in organising competitions, and underlined the strong partnership between UIPM and DVMF going back decades. 

 

21.07.-08.08.2021: Tokyo, JPN

138th IOC Session

President Dr Schormann took part in the IOC Session held at the Olympic Games Tokyo 2020 - which featured the award of the Olympic Summer Games 2032 to Brisbane (AUS). World Health Organisation Director-General Dr Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus made a powerful speech about the importance of solidarity between all global societies in overcoming the COVID-19 Coronavirus pandemic. President Dr Schormann and Mrs Fang also had dinner with UIPM’s Honorary President, HSH Prince Albert of Monaco II, for further discussions on the virtual UIPM Congress that will be hosted from Monaco in November 2021.

Pre-Olympic Games event meetings

At a meeting hosted by the Association of Summer Olympic International Federations (ASOIF), the IFs were briefed about the ongoing situation during the Games. Dr Schormann and Mrs Fang met the Mexico Sport Minister, Ana Gabriela Guevara (above left), to discuss future partnerships related to World Cups and World Championships and a new training and competition centre in Mexico.

Dr Schormann and Mrs Fang met Namdev Shirgoankar, Secretary General of the Asian Modern Pentathlon Confederation (AMPC). They discussed the development of Modern Pentathlon in Asia and briefed Mr Shirgoankar about preparations for the Asian Games 2022 in Hangzhou (CHN). All three later met Haider Farman (above), the Olympic Council of Asia (OCA) Director for Asian Games and & Sports Department, to discuss the same matters as well as the inclusion of Triathle in the Asian Beach Games.

 

Tokyo 2020 Olympic Games Modern Pentathlon

UIPM President Dr Klaus Schormann and Secretary General had a wide variety of meetings and engagements during the Modern Pentathlon competition period, starting with the UIPM Executive Board Meeting and Technical Meeting in Musashino Forest Sport Plaza on August 4.

On August 5, at the same venue, they attended the Fencing Ranking Round and participated in a press conference after the Women’s Fencing with four athletes from different countries around the world.

On August 6-7 they welcomed numerous VIP guests to the Tokyo Stadium for the culmination of the Men’s and Women’s Modern Pentathlon, with IOC President Dr Thomas Bach joining President Schormann to watch the Men’s Laser Run.

President Dr Schormann presented medals at the victory ceremony both days alongside IOC Member and Lithuania NOC President Daina Gudzineviciute.

 

Pierre de Coubertin bust donation

On behalf of UIPM, Dr Klaus Schormann donated the Pierre de Coubertin bust to the Olympic family of Japan.

Dr Schormann officially presented the 30kg iron monument to the President of the Tokyo 2020 Olympic Games Organising Committee, Seiko Hashimoto, with Michiyasu Takahashi (Head of Executive Office), Senji Ishikawa (Senior Director of OFS) and Aki Murasato (Executive Director of OFS) in attendance along with UIPM Executive Board Member Viacheslav Malishev.

The bust will reside in the Olympic Museum in Sapporo (JPN).

 

17.08.2021: Meeting with FEI President

The UIPM President joined his International Equestrian Federation (FEI) counterpart Ingmar de Vos for a wide-ranging conversation about how the two international Federations can collaborate more closely.

The meeting followed an offer by President de Vos to provide expertise to UIPM in its ongoing efforts to improve horse welfare in the sport. During the meeting, the FEI President agreed to provide two specialist experts who will work as consultants to UIPM.

 

20.08.2021: Innovation Commission

President Dr Schormann joined an online meeting of the UIPM Innovation Commission, which continued its discussions about opportunities to develop and strengthen Modern Pentathlon’s status within the Olympic movement through innovation. The Commission is chaired by Ivar Sisniega and the meeting was attended by UIPM Vice President Joel Bouzou OLY, NORCECA Confederation President Rob Stull, UIPM Executive Board Member for Development Viacheslav Malishev, UIPM Secretary General Shiny Fang and Executive Assistant Lena Nussbaumer (Coordinator).

 

23.08.2021: Sponsors meeting

Dr Wolfgang Dietz and Dr Armin Kohler visited the UIPM President’s Office and the UIPM Archive and Library in Darmstadt (GER) to discuss further ongoing steps in their capacities as sponsors of UIPM. Dr Dietz is CEO of Dietz AG and Dr Kohler is CEO of Rechner Sensors.

 

25.08.-28.08.2021: Weiden, GER

The UIPM President joined a large global gathering of the UIPM Sports community at the UIPM 2021 Biathle-Triathle World Championships, a cornerstone of the UIPM development programme for many years.

He attended the opening ceremony in the city centre of Weiden, which featured a welcome speech by the Minister of the Interior and for Integration and Sport of Bavaria, Mr Joachim Herrmann, and presented medals throughout the Championships while also meeting National Federation representatives.
