Indian Federation elects new President as 21 coaches attend CCP Level 1 course

Sandhya Palikar has been elected President of the Modern Pentathlon Federation of India (MPFI) and will serve a four-year term from 2022-26.

Ms Palikar, from Goa, will be supported in her Presidency by Shri Vitthal Shirgaonkar, who was elected for a second term as Secretary General., and Shri Krishnar as Treasurer.

An MPFI spokesperson said: “Electing a female for the post of President of MPFI showed women empowerment in Modern Pentathlon sports.”

Also in India, 21 coaches took their first steps on the Modern Pentathlon coaching ladder by participating in the UIPM Level 1 Coaches Certification Programme (CCP) course from August 8-12 at in Pune Maharashtra.

The programme was coordinated by UIPM Instructor and Barcelona 1992 Olympian Marian Gheorge (ROM) and took the form of practical, demonstration lecture, written examination and interview.

The 21 coaches, who came from India and elsewhere in Asia, finished with a 100% pass rate and each of them was awarded a certificate by outgoing MPFI President Sunil Purnapatre. 

Christian Roudaut, UIPM Coaches Committee Chairman, said: “It’s great news that 21 coaches in India have taken this important first step on their certification journey. I’m sure they all found the course challenging and rewarding and will now feel ready to deliver on the ground for the benefit of athletes across India and Asia.”
