Judges Certification Programme: Central Asian development continues apace with course in Bishkek (KGZ)

UIPM News

The continued development of Modern Pentathlon in Central Asia took another significant step forward in recent weeks with a brand new group of international judges put through their paces and moving ahead in their judging careers.

The UIPM Judges Certification Programme course held in Bishkek, the capital city of Kyrgyzstan, was planned alongside the Open Cup of Central Asia/Open Kyrgyzstan Championships from Jun 12-15 with almost 40 participants.

With one eye on the upcoming 2023 UIPM Pentathlon Challenger competition, an Olympic Games ranking event which will also take place in Bishkek this October, 39 students including 28 from Kyrgyzstan, 6 from Kazakhstan and 5 from Uzbekistan undertook the week-long course which offered certification at Level 1, 2 and 3

The course was overseen by educator Dmitry Menshikov (RUS) with 13 women and 26 men taking part and earning new certifications.

Asian Modern Pentathlon Confederation (AMPC) Secretary General Sangkeong Yeo said: “I have been having many discussions lately about continuing our great progress in the Central Asian region and courses like this are a key part of that strategy.

“It is very exciting to have so many judges in Kyrgyzstan and neighbouring nations continue their development. My thanks to UIPM for their support in these efforts.”

UIPM Executive Board Member for Sport and UIPM Technical Committee Chair, Janusz Peciak OLY, said: “I have often said that our UIPM Judges and Coaches Certifications Programmes are a bedrock of growth and in helping to build a strong pentathlon community.

“Seeing developing nations invest time and effort in JCP courses like the recent one in Bishkek is a great sign. I congratulate all of the participants and express sincere thanks again to the educators and organisers."
