Mexico’s Ricardo Vera smashes Pentathlon shooting world record in Cairo
In yesterday’s Mixed Relay competition at World Cup #2, Mexican teenager Ricardo Vera broke his own world record for Modern Pentathlon laser shooting. The 17-year-old hit the target five times in 7.26 seconds at his first round at the range in the combined event.
Although he ended the Mixed Relay in last position, as he and his partner Alba Castro were unable to complete the riding event, he rewrote the history books with this incredible time, beating his previous record by a sensational 0.34 seconds.
Let us not forget that the athletes need to reload their pistol and touch the table between each shot. The big question now is, can anyone better this time?
The shooting event in Modern Pentathlon requires the competitors to be cool, calm and collected, with it being a mental exercise rather than physical. It seems that today, the round of shooting is more about body movement and control rather than aim and accuracy.
