Modern Pentathlon

A second Olympic record was broken at Rio 2016 when Gulnaz Gubaydullina (RUS) won the Women's Swimming event at the Deodoro Aquatics Center.

Gubaydullina (RUS) recorded a time of 2mins 07.94secs in the final heat to finish ahead of Elodie Clouvel (FRA, 2:08.62) and the current world champion Sarolta Kovacs (HUN, 2:09.02).

Kovacs (HUN) was the previous record holder - she timed 2:08.11 at London 2012. And Clouvel (FRA) remains the world record holder with 2:06.59.

Before the incredible finale, there were impressive wins in earlier heats by Chloe Esposito (AUS) in 2:12.38 and Elena Potapenko (KAZ) in 2:11.52.

Next for the women is the Fencing Bonus Round (2pm local time), the Riding (3.30pm) and finally the Combined Event (6pm) where the medals will be decided.

Russia has been the star nation so far at this competition and this was their second Olympic record in less than 24 hours, after Alexander Lesun's superb performance in the Men's Fencing Ranking Round.
