UIPM 2023 Pentathlon Junior World Championships: Fencing Ranking Round

The UIPM 2023 Pentathlon Junior World Championships continued today with the 72 individual finalists taking part in the Fencing Ranking Round in Druskininkai (LTU).

Yeeun Kim of Korea took a substantial lead in the Women’s Final after an exceptional round of 29 victories and just six defeats gave her a 20-point advantage over 2nd-placed Gina Speakman of Great Britain, who scored 25V/10D, with U19 world champion Malak Ismail of Egypt (24V/11D) five points further behind.  

James Hulme (GBR) similarly stood out in a tighter Men’s Final competition, scoring 26V/9D to lead by 15 points from Jan Toman of Czech Republic (23V/12D) with Vladyslav Chekan of Ukraine five points further back after a 22V/13D.

The UIPM 2023 Pentathlon Junior World Championships runs from September 12-17, coming to a climax on Saturday, September 16 with the remainder of the Individual Finals (Obstacle / Fencing Bonus Round / Swimming / Laser Run). The Mixed Relay closes the competition on Sunday September 17.

Both the Finals and Mixed Relay can be watched live on UIPM TV where annual subscriptions cost €14.99. This is the first time a Modern Pentathlon competition with the integrated Obstacle discipline will be broadcast live.
