UIPM 2023 U17 World Championships: Women’s Qualification

The UIPM 2023 U17 World Championships continued today with athletes taking part in the Women’s Individual Qualification in Alexandria (EGY).

The 18 best performers in each of two qualification groups earned passage to the Women’s Final. With 1,296 points Farida Khalil of Egypt won the first group by a huge margin, while Emma Herbak of Hungary finished 2nd and Chloe Johnson of Great Britain came home in 3rd.

The second group was tied between team-mates Dora Krall and Linda Haraszin (HUN), with Eda Ozrodop of Türkiye claiming 3rd place alongside Amaya El-Masri of Germany and Sarah Mohamed (EGY).

It was another historic day as Youth athletes took part in an individual Pentathlon for the first time, following the sequence of Fencing, Obstacle, Swimming and Laser Run. El-Masri (GER) was the top Obstacle performer with a rapid time of 29.34sec – effectively a new world record.

The UIPM 2023 U17 World Championships runs from July 11-16, continuing on Thursday, July 13 with the Men’s Individual Qualification. The Fencing Ranking Round takes place on July 14 before the Individual Finals are completed the next day. The Mixed Relay closes the competition on Sunday July 16.
