UIPM Coaches Certification Programme: Movement up and running in Lilongwe (MAW)

UIPM News

Malawi joined the UIPM family in November 2018 and now the first tranche of coaches has been certified after a six-day course in the city of Lilongwe.

The Level 1 Coaches Certification Programme course was supervised by UIPM Instructor and Level 3 coach Steven Mason (GBR) and took place at the Kamuzu Institute for Youth from April 20-25.

The activities were attended by McGilliard Blackson Malamula, President of the Malawi Modern Pentathlon Federation, which became a UIPM member at the 2018 Congress in Limassol (CYP) along with Jamaica, Paraguay and Uganda.

The Kamuzu Institute for Youth is a facility that lets young people take part in a wide range of sports such as judo, football and hockey, and now Modern Pentathlon has been added to the list.

Christian Roudaut, Chair of the UIPM Coaches Committee, said: “Malawi has much to offer in UIPM Sports, especially in Laser Run, like so many African countries. They have a big pool of athletes, especially students, and a group of coaches who are motivated to get the sporting movement up and running.

“The coaches who undertook the Level 1 course in Lilongwe showed a strong desire to learn about our sport and they all passed the written exam, some with very impressive results.

“After the success of the recent CCP initiative in Mali, it is exciting to see so much activity and progress in Africa.”
