UIPM REINFORCES SUPPORT TO SPORTS INTEGRITY

UIPM News

With only 40 days to go to the Olympic Games, the IOC have addressed the need for an effective, coordinated response from the sports world to the threat of match-fixing and related corruption by publishing the Olympic Movement Code on the Prevention of the Manipulation of Competitions. Moreover, the IOC has reinforced its Integrity Betting Intelligence System (IBIS) and is enhancing monitoring and information exchange between law enforcement agencies, sports organisations and betting operators/regulators. All Summer and Winter Olympic International Federation have signed up to IBIS.

Competitions manipulation is globally identified as an intentional arrangement, act or omission aimed at an improper alteration of the result or the course of a sports competition in order to remove all or part of the unpredictable nature of the aforementioned sports competition with a view to obtaining an undue advantage for oneself or for others. As such manipulation can be much wider than what is usually referred to as match-fixing and it is capable of jeopardizing and threatening integrity in any sport and to put at risk the value and principles of the Olympic family.

UIPM strongly supports the IOC approach and will do anything possible to protect Modern Pentathlon, prevent and punish manipulation of competitions at all level.
