Asadauskaite adds World crown to Olympic title
After a season in which she has failed to reproduce the form that saw her take the Olympic gold last year, Laura Asadauskaite delivered when she needed it to most, coming all the way up from 19th on the combined starting grid to become World Champion with some sensational shooting and impressively fast running in the final event of the day.
A typhoon had wreaked havoc with the schedule as the women had to compete over four days instead of two but Asadauskaite did not seem fazed today with her barnstorming performance in the run/shoot seeing her add the World title to her already swollen medal collection.
Yane Marques of Brazil, who took bronze at the London 2012 Olympics, finished with silver in Taiwan as Donata Rimasaite took bronze.
Liudmila Kukushkina of Russia came in fourth whilst Elodie Clouvel, who had begun the combined in first place, ended fifth.
Team gold went to Great Britain with Samantha Murray, Freyja Prentice and Mhairi Spence’s times ensuring they finished above China and Ukraine on the podium.
