First Modern Pentathlon Obstacle Championship marks development milestone in UAE
The UAE Modern Pentathlon Federation has celebrated the successful staging of the country’s first Modern Pentathlon Obstacle Championship, highlighting growing opportunities for young athletes and continued investment in the future of the sport.
Organised in cooperation with Maliha Sports Club, the event brought together 65 athletes across multiple categories and represented an important step in expanding participation in Obstacle racing, the newest sport under the UIPM umbrella and one of the five disciplines of Modern Pentathlon.
The championship reflected ongoing efforts by the UAE federation to attract new talent, strengthen athlete pathways and build greater awareness of Modern Pentathlon among younger generations.
The event was attended by H.E. Sheikh Suhail bin Butti Al Maktoum, Executive Director of the Sports Development Sector at the UAE’s General Authority of Sports, alongside several sports officials, underlining institutional support for the continued growth of Pentathlon Multisport in the United Arab Emirates.
The successful delivery of the competition, both technically and organisationally, is viewed as an encouraging sign for future development initiatives and domestic competition opportunities.
By introducing Obstacle competition at grassroots level, the UAE Modern Pentathlon Federation aims to create new entry points for children and young athletes while supporting progression towards national and international participation.

Huda Abdulrahman Almatrooshi, UAE Modern Pentathlon Federation President, said: “We are pleased with the successful launch of the first Modern Pentathlon Obstacle Championship in the UAE. The participation numbers and enthusiasm shown by athletes demonstrate the growing interest in our sport.
“We remain committed to developing Modern Pentathlon in the UAE, identifying new talent and creating opportunities that align with the international vision and future direction of the sport.”
Sangkeong Yeo, President of the Asian Modern Pentathlon Confederation, added: “I am delighted to learn of the successful launch of the 1st Modern Pentathlon Obstacle Championship in the UAE, organized by the UAE Modern Pentathlon Federation.
“This is a very encouraging sign for the future development of Modern Pentathlon in the Middle East. It is particularly meaningful to see both new and existing federations in the Middle East actively promoting the sport through hosting and participating in international competitions, especially ahead of the Asian Games in Doha 2030 and Riyadh 2034, both of which will be held in the Middle East.
“The AMPC will continue to support and encourage our National Federations in their efforts to develop the sport and expand opportunities for athletes across Asia.”
With momentum building around Obstacle worldwide, initiatives such as the UAE’s inaugural championship are helping to strengthen pathways from grassroots participation to elite competition, supporting the next generation of UIPM Sports athletes.
