Modern Pentathlon

Last week saw the Hungarian Modern Pentathlon Association and the city of Kecskemét sign a cooperation contract for this season’s World Cup #4 at a specially arranged press conference at the competition’s official hotel, the Four Points by Sheraton.

This is the very first time that a major Modern Pentathlon competition will be held in Kecskemét and Dr Gábor Zombor, the town mayor, was said to be delighted at the prospect of holding such an important sporting event in the city.

It is also the only European leg of the 2014 World Cup Series so it will be one of the biggest events of this season’s Modern Pentathlon calendar.

World Cup #4 will begin on 30 April with the women’s qualification and will culminate in the Mixed Relay on 4 May. The very best pentathletes on the planet are all set to take part in this event with it being the last opportunity to gain valuable points in the race to qualify for the World Cup Final.

Gábor Molnár, HMPA Competition Director, praised the efforts of the city of Kecskemét and was thrilled at the efforts that were made in bringing the competition there. It was also stressed that UIPM gave its full backing to the change of venue when the competition was originally scheduled to take place in Budapest.
