IOC President Bach attends MP girl’s final

The IOC President Dr. Thomas Bach, attended to the Girls Individual Modern Pentathlon Final and was part of the great environment the Combined Event created. With all athletes stepping up for the Run / Shoot event, the Nanjing Olympic Sports Centre venue was seated to full capacity, watching the local home favorite ZHONG XIUTING (China) take the Gold medal ahead of FRANCESCA SUMMERS (Great Britain) and ANNA MATTHES (Germany).

After the competition, Dr. Bach met with Aroa FREIJE TORNEIRO (Spain), Haydy MORSY (Egypt), Isabel BRAND (Guatemala) and Marina CARRIER (Australia), engaging in a friendly conversation and exchanging opinions about the Modern Pentathlon event itself and the YOG in general.

The athletes shared their passion for the sport and the Games, highlighting the friendships created in Nanjing and the experience the YOG provided them with.

With some questions by President Bach, each athlete took their turn to explain why she loved pentathlon, underlining their passion for our sports because it includes multiple disciplines that not only never let them get bored but, most of all, allowed them to test their abilities to excel and various sports.

They went on to comment how the new format of competition [fencing ladder system] was very exciting and provided a much better highlight for spectators as the environment now created in this discipline is ecstatic, where the athletes can really feel the crowd behind you.
