Modern Pentathlon

2012 World Champion Mhairi Spence will make her long-awaited return from injury at World Cup #4 this week as she competes at World Cup #4 in Kecskemet, Hungary.

Having been sidelined with an ankle injury since the 2013 World Championships in Chinese Taipei last year, the 28-year-old from Inverness in Scotland was delighted to be back in action, declaring, “It's great to be back competing after injury. I wouldn't be back here now without the help and support of Lottery Funding and those who play the Lottery." Spence had placed second at World  Cup #4 last year.

She is joined in the woman's draw by 19-year-old Alice Fitton who will be making her first ever appearance in the World Cup Series circuit. Fitton, originally from Atherton in Greater Manchester but now based at Pentathlon GB’s National Training Centre at the University of Bath, was a member of Britain’s gold medal winning women’s team relay trio and came ninth in the individual competition at last year’s World Junior Championships at Székesfehérvár in Hungary. It will be interesting to see how she fares at the Senior level.

In-form Kate French completes the trio of British women in Hungary, she returns to action just over a week after finishing sixth at the Chengdu World Cup in China, the highest World Cup finish of her career to date. She will be aiming to add those vital points that will qualify her for the World Cup Final in the USA in June.

The young GB pairing of Tom Toolis and Luke Tasker will contest the men’s event. Toolis, 21, competes at his third World Cup, whilst 20-year-old Tasker got his first taste of the World Cup Series in Chengdu two weeks ago.
