TRIBUTE TO VALENTIN BOROZNIN (1955-2025)
UIPM President Rob Stull has led the tributes to Valentin Boroznin, Secretary General of the Ukrainian Modern Pentathlon Federation, who died on September 11.
The long-serving official was a member of the Ukrainian Olympic Committee as well as being an honoured coach and ambassador for physical culture and sports. His passing marks another cruel blow to the Ukrainian Pentathlon community, coming so soon after the death of Igor Panin – who was one of the athletes trained by Valentin Boroznin.
UIPM President Stull said: “Valentin was very kind. I will miss him at our Congresses and our meetings where his affable nature and his big smile and warm personality and dedication to the sport. A great friend to Pentathlon and a good human being.”
A touching tribute on the UMPF website read: “For us, he was not only a coach and organiser, but above all a Man with a capital letter. His faith in his pupils, his support in the most difficult moments and the sincere joy of their victories will remain in our memory forever.
“Valentyn Oleksandrovych knew how to inspire, add strength where it seemed that there were no more of them, and always found words that touched the heart of every coach and athlete.
“Valentyn Oleksandrovych was a bright, sincere person who knew how to give warmth, support and hope. His smile, his jokes, his ability to energise will remain in our hearts forever.”
