Tetrathlon

The UIPM 2015 Youth A World Championships in Argentina will mark a special and historic milestone for the Union Internationale de Pentathlon Moderne this week.

As well as playing host to 150 of the finest up and coming Modern Pentathletes from 30 countries, Buenos Aires will also see the first ever official test event for Para-Pentathlon take place this Saturday (September 5) in the disciplines of swimming, fencing and shooting.

It is a historic event which UIPM President Dr Klaus Schormann is very proud to be part of. He said: “We are so proud and so happy to be part of the Paralympic Movement and we can do a special test here in Buenos Aires.

“It is the first historical movement here and huge thanks must to go to Jorge Salas for all his hard work and support.”

Salas, President of the Argentinian Modern Pentathlon Federation, was joined at the top table for the official launch of the UIPM 2015 Youth A World Championships by Dr Schormann and other distinguished guests.

These included Benny Elmann-Larsen (UIPM Working Group for Para-Pentathlon), Victor Sergio Groupierre (Secretary General of Argentinian Olympic Committee), Diego Gusman Panelli (Chef de Mission for Youth Olympic Games 2018), José Maria Valladares (President of Argentinian Paralympic Committee - COPAR) as well as Argentinian young pentathletes who will be competing over the next few days.

Remarking on the Para-Pentathlon test event, the President of COPAR José Maria Valladares valued the hard work and the invaluable contribution they make to the Paralympic Movement saying: “Our mission is simple and strong: making Paralympians excel.”

The Championships, which get underway today, will be a wonderful spectacle of live sporting action showcasing the future of Modern Pentathlon – something which is very much at the heart of the sport and its governing body.

UIPM President Dr Klaus Schormann said: “We are delighted to be here. The Youth A World Championships are very important as when it comes to developing our sport we have to invest in young athletes.

“As UIPM president I am very interested in the youth movement. We are focusing on the youth because you are the basis, you are the future. We don’t know you very well now but we will know in few years by your achievements.

“We are in good hands. I am sure Pierre de Coubertin would be very proud by what the Argentinian Olympic Committee is achieving.”

Victor Sergio Groupierre, Secretary General of the Argentinian Olympic Committee, who hosted the Press Conference said: “The Youth A World Championships can be taken as the first test event for the Youth Olympic Games in 2018 and Buenos Aires wants to give a very good impression.”
