UIPM 2022 Pentathlon Junior World Championships: President’s welcome

Modern Pentathlon

Dear athletes, dear coaches and trainers, dear guests and officials!

Welcome to the UIPM 2022 Junior World Championships, a competition that is paramount to the development of pentathletes who will soon reach the top level of our Olympic multi-sport Modern Pentathlon.

Poland has a proud history of organising high-level UIPM international competitions in all age categories. Back in 1976, Zielona Gora hosted the Junior Modern Pentathlon World Championships and I remember being involved as leader of the German team.

I would especially like to thank Janusz Peciak OLY, President of the Polish Modern Pentathlon Association, and his Organizing Committee for the excellent preparation. I also want to thank all volunteers, sponsors, supporters, government and media representatives – as well as Andrzej Krasnicki, President of the Polish Olympic Committee.

I am also grateful to all involved in preparations for the New Pentathlon Discipline Test Event IV, which will take place here on October 7/8 – this is the final opportunity for athletes to try our brand new Obstacle Discipline in 2022!

This should not, however, take attention away from the Junior World Championships where we hope to see high-level performances in a spirit of fair play.

Athletes should not forget they are not only here to compete, but they also have an opportunity to build new friendships and enjoy a social experience. I ask all participants to remember the spirit of Pierre de Coubertin and respect the Olympic values as we together enjoy the glory of our wonderful sport of Modern Pentathlon.

Dr Klaus Schormann
