UIPM 2023 Pentathlon World Cup Budapest: Men’s Qualification

UIPM 2023 Pentathlon World Cup Budapest continued today with 83 athletes taking part in the Men’s Qualification.

The top-scoring athlete of the day (1,212 points) and first across the line in Qualification Group A was Gergely Regos of Hungary, followed by Emiliano Hernandez of Mexico, Giorgio Malan of Italy and Fernand Mitterand of Germany.

The race also featured an extraordinary Laser Run performance by Andras Gall (HUN), who set a new Laser Run world record of 9min 51.30sec.

The Hungarian hosts then dominated Qualification Group B with Balazs Szep (HUN) and Jozsef Tamas (HUN) crossing ahead of Martin Vlach of Czech Republic.

Qualification Group C ended with Changwan Seo of Korea setting the standard, with Csaba Bohm (HUN) and Mihaly Koleszar (HUN) keeping him company.

Also among the successful qualifiers were Tokyo 2020 Olympic bronze medallist Woongtae Jun of Korea, Rio 2016 Olympic silver medallist Pavlo Tymoshchenko of Ukraine, UIPM 2023 Pentathlon World Cup Ankara winner Mohanad Shaban of Egypt and two-time world champion Valentin Belaud of France.

Pentathlon World Cup Budapest continues tomorrow (April 27) with the Women’s Semi-finals, followed by the Men’s Semi-finals on April 28, the Finals on April 29 and the Mixed Relay on April 30.
