UIPM announces next Athlete Consultation to take place during Pentathlon World Championships

Modern Pentathlon

UIPM announces today that its next Athlete Consultation will take place on August 25 in Guiyang (CHN) during the Pentathlon World Championships.

The purpose of the interactive meeting is three-fold.

  1. To invite athlete feedback based on their experiences following two full seasons practising the reimagined Pentathlon, and for UIPM to share feedback it has received from multiple stakeholders within the Olympic movement.
  2. To share and discuss UIPM’s vision for LA28 and beyond.
  3. To provide a media-related briefing on the state of the sport and its potential, with external advice on how athletes can optimise promotion of Pentathlon in collaboration with UIPM and develop their own personal profiles.

UIPM President Rob Stull said: “As an athlete-first International Federation, it’s vital that we maintain continuous dialogue with our athletes and we are looking forward to meeting face-to-face with all of our best and brightest during our flagship annual event.

“Based on this season’s participation trends, we are expecting a huge worldwide attendance at this year’s UIPM World Championships. The Race Across China kicks off with our senior Pentathlon World Championships in Guiyang, immediately followed by the 2nd UIPM Obstacle World Championships in Beijing, and I look forward to this opportunity to hear from all our athletes on a wide range of issues. These are incredibly exciting times for our movement and we know that athletes will have questions about the future direction and opportunities of our sports and disciplines.

“I also want to express my gratitude to the UIPM Executive Board for their clear recent decisions regarding the readmission of athletes from Russia and Belarus. While we continue to offer our full support to the Ukrainian Pentathlon community, who have been so tragically affected by the military occupation of their country, the IOC has made it clear that Olympic sport is moving into a new era where athletes will no longer be punished for the actions of their governments. Our EB followed the IOC’s guidance closely before voting in favour of the reinstatement of Russia.”
