UIPM Coaches Certification Programme: Gearing up for Pan-American Games in Lima (PER)

UIPM News

The UIPM Sports movement in Peru is preparing for a major showcase in 2019 and 27 coaches gained their first official qualification during a six-day UIPM Coaches Certification Programme (CCP) course in the capital, Lima.

Later in 2019, the city will host the fourth-largest sporting event in the world, the Pan-American Games (July 26 to August 11).

With five Pentathlon medal events on the programme, taking place at the Military School of Chorillos from July 27-30, and qualification for the Tokyo 2020 Olympic Games on the line, it’s a massive opportunity for the movement in the region to grow, and the Peru Modern Pentathlon Federation (FDPPM) is looking to capitalise.

The Level 1 CCP course took place from April 22-26 at the Peru Olympic Committee headquarters and was overseen by UIPM Instructor Guillermo Filipi of Argentina, a Level 4 coach.

Jorge Salas, President of the South American Confederation of Modern Pentathlon, said: “I was very pleased to see the successful outcome of the CCP course in Lima, with 27 coaches gaining their Level 1 qualification.

“The Pan-American Games Lima 2019 represents another big opportunity to showcase our sport to new audiences in the region.

“We can use this event as a catalyst for growth and to do that we need to have coaches who are qualified and committed to the goal of helping athletes to find a pathway to success within the UIPM movement.”
